Bec’s Cakes are classic with a twist. I love to elevate tried and true flavors with something unexpected. I believe a cake must not only look lovely but taste special, too. That’s why I never use boxed mixes, and I love decorating with natural elements such as fruit and flowers for a touch of whimsy.
Here you’ll find the four basic elements of creating a unique cake for your occasion. I’ve shared my favorite ideas and combinations, and I’d love to come up with a combo that is right for you.
One: Choose your Cake
We’ll start with a cake that is moist and flavorful. Some of my favorites flavors include:
Two: Choose your Filling
The options are endless here.
Fruit fillings like blackberry jam or lemon curd add a brightness to simple flavors.
A creamy peanut butter or a cream cheese filling make a rich cake even more indulgent.
And if you’re anything like me, a crunchy element makes everything better. Filling your layers with cake crumbles, cinnamon-sugar streusel, or crushed brittle are the perfect complement to the soft and creamy textures in the rest of the cake.
Is your mouth watering yet?
Three: Choose your Frosting
The classics like chocolate and vanilla never disappoint. I also fancy more daring combos like a rosemary buttercream, a salted caramel buttercream, or a blood orange goat cheese frosting.
Four: Choose your Decoration
This is where I design your cake to complement your personal style, the theme of your party, the holiday you’re celebrating, or whatever matters most for the occasion. The gallery you see here best showcases my decorating style, and I also love combining my style with new ideas to best fit your celebration.
(I do not do fondant decorations, and I limit cakes to a maximum of two tiers. For larger events, I’m happy to make several two-tier cakes or an additional sheet cake to serve more guests.)
