Welcome, friends! I’m Becs—a twenty-something engineer, baker, and wannabe extrovert (i.e. introvert) living in Birmingham, AL, with a passion for bringing people together through hospitality and celebration. I grew up in Aiken, SC (rightly awarded “Best Small Town in the South” by Southern Living in 2018) in a big family. I got my start in the kitchen helping my mom and dad cook dinner and spending time baking with my grandma.
After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, I moved to Birmingham and started my job with a power utility. I currently work for said power utility and LOVE geeking out over heat transfer, efficiency improvements, and water conservation. Settling in Birmingham also brought the return of my other love, baking, as I created birthday cakes for friends and family. This creative outlet allowed me to love and serve people well, and that’s the heart of Bec’s Cakes.
When I imagine a Becs Cake in your home, I see it being shared and savored in the midst of deep, belly laughs, spirited conversation, and lingering embraces.
My hope is to make it less intimidating for you to welcome people into your home to celebrate simple, yet special, moments. I believe there is a time and place for big celebrations, and anyone who has seen me on the dance floor at a wedding reception can tell you that. I also know that we can’t hire a DJ and caterer every time we get a promotion, welcome a new family to the neighborhood, or throw a birthday party. Even so, those often-overlooked occasions are worth bringing people together to commemorate, welcome, and celebrate, and what better way to mark a simple celebration than with a cake?!
When I imagine a Becs Cake in your home, I see it being shared and savored in the midst of deep, belly laughs, spirited conversation, and lingering embraces. And as people remember your gathering, I hope their memories will be punctuated with the thought, “...and wow, that was a really great cake!”
